During Maths this week, we have been learning about Roman Numerals. We read numbers up to 2000 by looking at celebrity’s’ birth years. The children now know all the symbols up to 1000 (M). Homework has been set to consolidate their learning from class. If your child is finding the homework difficult, please come and see Mr Kennedy or Mr Round.
Here is some information about the way that we organise spelling in Upper Band and ways you can practise at home.
All the children should now have a reading book and log. Please get in touch if they haven't or if there are any problems with this. Here's a handy guide to help you support your child to make progress in reading...
In topic this week, the children have enjoyed learning about the 5 layers of the earth. They have read about these layers during guided reading sessions and answered questions about them. Next week, the children will be following this up in more detail, and investigating how and when volcanoes form. In guided reading we will be continuing with the natural disasters theme, and introduce the children to information about floods.
Hi, I’m Mr Round - class teacher of Jay Class.
I hope everyone had a wonderful summer and are excited to start their journey through year 5!
I am thrilled to be here at Christ Church CofE Junior School for my first year of teaching. I have been warmly welcomed by pupils, parents and staff and feel at home already.
This year I will be joint leading the eco club. With the children we will help everyone become environmentally aware, and promote the environment within and outside the school. When not in school, I fill my time by playing guitar and singing, learning about our natural world, and preparing for my first child with my wife!
I am looking forward to getting to know you all over the coming weeks. Keep one eye posted on our page to keep up to date with our learning! See you all soon.
Welcome to Jay Class!
