Everyone who works or volunteers at Christ Church Junior School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children by

  • The provision of a safe, resilient and robust safeguarding ethos in the school, built on mutual respect, and shared values in which children and young people can learn
  • Fulfilling our statutory (legal) responsibilities to identify children who may be in need of extra help or who are suffering, or are likely to suffer, significant harm
  • Support children’s development in ways which will foster a sense of self-esteem and independence

We always encourage open and honest discussions with both families and children in a safe, confidential and nurturing environment as our main priority is our children's welfare.

Worried about a child?

If you have any worries about the safety of a child, it is important you know who to share them with and what to do: together we are all responsible for the care and welfare of children.

  • Are you a parent who needs support with a difficult issue, from your child’s behaviour to a problem related to domestic violence?
  • Are you a young person who needs to talk to someone about things that are worrying you?
  • Do you have concerns about the safety or well-being of another child or think they are at risk of abuse or neglect?

All concerns relating to a child in school should be passed to the designated safeguarding lead, Pippa Osborne (headteacher).

In her absence, any concerns should be passed to the deputy designated safeguarding leads: Alex Desmond (deputy headteacher) or Sadie Groves (SENDCO).

The designated teacher for looked after and previously looked after children is Alex Desmond (deputy headteacher)

Isabel Sarson is our safeguarding governor and he can be contacted via the school office.

Safeguarding Documents

The documents and links below enable staff and volunteers to exercise their duties in relation to child protection.  Part 1 of the following document is essential reading for all staff and volunteers.

Keeping children safe in education - September 2023

What to do if you are worried your child is being abused – March 2015

The Prevent Duty (Radicalisation)

As part of Christ Church Junior School’s ongoing safeguarding and child protection duties, we fully support the government’s Prevent strategy.  Working positively to protect young people from radicalisation and helping to prevent children being exposed to extremist ideas. Our overriding concern is that children feel safe and also express tolerance towards all cultures and religions, even when personal views may be different.

The Prevent Duty applies to all schools and childcare providers.

The statutory guidance refers to the importance of Prevent awareness training to equip staff to identify children at risk of being drawn into terrorism and to challenge extremist ideas. All our staff will receive training on what Prevent is about and be provided with a clear overview of how to exercise their duty through the link below.
